REPAIR WINDOWS XP USING WINDOWS RECOVERY CONSOLE
1. This is a frequently asked question, what to do when you get a boot error message while loading windows.
2. People just recommend to format and re-image Windows Xp...But this is not the solution.
3. The Best thing You need to do is repair Windows Xp using Windows Recovery Console. By using this you will not only repair windows but regains all your installed softwares.
4. Insert your Windows Xp cd (or using USB FDD) and wait until it shows you option for repair...If you experience blue screen of death before the repair option remove your hard disk connect it to other computer and repeat the same process...Press 'r' to enter repair.
5. Before Doing anything run " CHKDSK /r " (without quotes). This will Check For any errors in your hard disk. Wait until it finishes. Then type " exit " and boot again from disk.
6. You will see a recovery console command prompt window and windows installed on your HDD which is marked as 1: C:\Windows (If you Dont see this windows probably your HDD is corrupted). Type 1 and press enter.
7. You Will Be Asked for Administrative password, Enter Password..or just press enter.
8. Type " cd c:\system~1 " (Trying to Access System Volume Information). You should get access denied message.
9. Then Type " del system32\config\system " and press enter. Then type exit.
10. Again boot from the Windows Xp Cd and select repair menu.
11. Type 1 and press enter. Type " cd c:\system~1 " (Trying to Access System Volume Information). You will be able to access it now.
12. Now type " cd _resto~1 " press enter and type " dir " (to see all dirctories and files)..
13. You will see all Resore Check points created till date...select the latest restore point to perform system restore. To perform this type " cd rp10\snapshpot " and press enter. Then type dir.
14. Press esc or space as required.
15. Type " copy _registry_machine_system c:\windows\system32\config\system " and press enter.
16. Type " copy _registry_machine_software c:\windows\system32\config\software" and press enter. You will be asked to replace type ' y '.
17. Type exit and set Hdd as 1st boot priority..
16. That's it now you are ready with your windows.
